Medieval Villages and Medes Islands

On this tour we cross the Baix Empordà area named by Josep Plà L'Empordanet.

The first place we are going to visit is Peratallada a village declared a historic-artistic and Cultural asset of national interest (BCIN), built on carved stone with three enclosures that protect the Castle and the Palace. We will see how it has preserved its feudal aspect with its porticoed square, narrow alleys and cobbled streets and the towers of Defense.

A few kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea, right on the Costa Brava, lie the medieval streets of Pals. The county of Baix Empordà in the province of Girona has in this town a lovely old quarter, declared a Historic Artistic Site. In the Gothic quarter of Pals, pretty cobbled streets flanked by aristocratic houses await you. From the highest part of the village, where you will find the clock tower, there are the best views across the plain, the Montgrí massif l'empordanet and even the Illes Medes.

Pals also has a product much appreciated by all the gourmets, the rice from Pals. Cultivated in this area since the 15th century, the rice is extra quality and contains essential amino acids that makes its biological value higher. After lunch we will go to L'Estartit, a small town that lived from fishing until in the 1950s/' 60s began to get tourism. There are two areas that we must emphasize the beach of more than 5 km of fine sand and shallow waters that make it perfect for the kids to play and bathe without danger and the Medes Islands,classified as the best Natural Reserve of the Western Mediterranean, thousands of divers each year choose it as a tourist destination.

We will arrive to L'Estartit Port to sail in Nautilus Vessel which offer exceptional views of the seabed. Within your reach is the mystery and beauty of underwater life at the Medes Islands Nature Reserve. You can observe through their submerged cabins with large windows. In addition to the underwater view, this route also provides the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing swim off the Montgrí coast (only in summer time).
